Cubit, Spain’s first technology library, is opened
Since the 1st of July, the refurbished sugar factory in the Arrabal district is home to a facility specifically dedicated for young people.
The headquarters of Zaragoza Activa, the old home of the sugar factory, has opened the “Cubit” Project. This is an information centre and meeting place, specifically dedicated towards young people. It has 50 computers and 15,000 titles on different platforms, from traditional books to audiovisual material, video games and the latest trends in music. This innovative initiative, the first in Spain, is going to be a young people’s zone, modern and full of life, far from the staid and boring image of traditional libraries. Designed by the architect Christian Schmitz in the shape of a cube, it fully combines architecture, contents and technology, enabling to offer an accessible, welcoming and multifunctional space.
The area also includes an Employment Area and a Multimedia Hall, offering training and legal advice. Finally, it will also be the headquarters of the Young Aragonese Businesspeople Association (Asociación de Jóvenes Empresarios de Aragón-AJE) and the Zaragoza Volunteer Corps.
